Announcing Our Investment in Yogome

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
– Dr. Seuss

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
– William Butler Yeats

In an era of accelerating change, the one certainty is that the world our children will inherit as working adults will be radically different than the one they inhabit today.

If there is one gift that, as a parent, I can give my children today, it is to inspire them to love learning, and to develop the habits of being a lifelong learner. To walk towards, and not away from, the unknown. To believe in their own capacity to grow.

No matter the environment, they will always then have the confidence and inclination to acquire the skills and abilities to meet the needs and challenges of their time.

We are all born with a love of learning. Unfortunately, one of the biggest tragedies of education systems around the world is the way many of our schools stamp out the curiosity inherent in each child. Whether through high-stakes testing regimes or discipline-focused pedagogical models, too often we are producing fear and conformity in our children rather than love and creativity.

Today, we are excited to announce our investment in Yogome, a platform for game-based learning founded by Manolo Diaz and Alberto Colin. Exceed Capital is leading the Series B financing, and we are joined by existing investors Seaya Ventures and Variv Capital, along with new investor Insight Venture Partners.

Based in Mexico City and with users all around the world, Yogome¬†has developed a way of engaging kids in the learning process that is truly exciting. With a sharp eye for design and a deep understanding of learning psychology, Yogome’s founders have created one of the fastest-growing consumer facing technology businesses we have seen.

Yogome’s mission of creating a brighter future for kids everywhere is one we are excited by, and their model of empowering families directly is part of an overarching trend in the world of education that we believe will continue to grow.

As founders, Manolo and Alberto also represent another important development we are seeing: the rise of talented education technology entrepreneurs in every market around the world. We believe that great ideas and companies can truly be born anywhere, and Yogome is a great example that we are proud to support.

And if you are the parent of a curious and independent child who would love to battle monsters and save the galaxy through solving math problems, learning new languages and discovering the wonders of science (among many other learning games), we encourage you to check out Epic Heroes of Knowledge and tell us what you think!
